Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers tremendous potential for enhancing productivity, efficiency, and innovation in the corporate world. However, it also presents several potential dangers that businesses need to be aware of and actively manage. Some of these dangers include:
Job Displacement
Bias and Discrimination
Privacy Concerns
Cybersecurity Risks
Ethical Dilemmas
Regulatory Compliance
Dependency and Control
Fairly daunting and frightening, isn't it? It should be. What you just read should also be taken with a mighty grain of salt and caution.
I didn't write it. Everything in that opening paragraph and list was written by ChatGTP, responding to my question on what the dangers are of using AI in a corporate setting.
It all makes perfect sense. The concepts are certainly sound, and each one of those numbered items came with a complete, (and in some cases very detailed), paragraph going into logical detail. This entire article could have been written by AI, and if I didn't reveal the source, you would have thought it came from my keyboard. All I would have needed to do was polish here and there, and I would rip out a new article in less than 3 minutes.
That would have been a lie. It would have been the new height of 21st Century technological fraud.
Now, the possibility exists that no one would have ever known. Most people just assume, and we all know what that word stands for.
But what would have happened if you, anyone, would have clicked onto the very popular and free ChatGTP and asked a similar, perhaps even the same question? You likely would have received the same response, or something very similar. Putting that side-by-side with my article, and your first thought might have been, "Hey, that's plagarism!", or even, "This guy's a fraud!"
In any case, you would have been correct to question my representation, and perhaps even never pay attention to another word I write or speak because it would be in the back of your mind that I had lied.
My reputation, my image, my brand, might have been ruined for all-time. That's because, as we now all too well, nothing ever disappears from the internet. It lives forever. Forever.
Is the answer just to never use AI when preparing speeches and other content? Perhaps. That's up to the individual. If you're part of the C-Level of a major company or someone who writes the press releases, your integrity is on the line. Once that line is crossed, it often can be, again because of the internet and that fact everything lives forever, a dark stain you will wear forever. It can cost you money, reputation, your career, maybe even good friendships and colleagues.
So then, ask yourself. Are you willing to take that chance?
We have reached a point in the evolution and use of AI where it's use is too widespread to merely say something as laughable as "DON'T EVER USE IT!", because we know people will make good time with an entity that can increase their vocabulary, save them time, and yes, potentially make them more money. Those all go together.
Start slowly then. If you use an AI to write something, then be honest about it. Make a footnote. Reveal that "AI was used in the creation of this speech", or whatever your content is.
Be honest. Don't lie. Use AI as a backbone to augment what you do, not replace it. Weave your own words and ideas into the wording and then make it your own. There's nothing wrong with needing some help to make a presentation, a press release, or even a response more efficient and professional. People have been doing it for generations with researchers and ghostwriters.
However, artificial intelligence is different. Some will view it as a form of cheating, and you will be held as the cheat.
Again, the question. Are you willing to take that chance? Here's another one. Is it really worth taking that chance?
AI is now a permanent part of our lives, personally and professionally. That genie isn't going back in the bottle. So learn to use it to your advantage, and in the process, bolster your brand and reputation where everyone knows you aren't looking to pull a fast one.
The "big deal" is your personal and professional image will thank you.
